Crown & Bridge & Implant Dentistry

When you smile, the world smiles with you.

When a fracture or a large filling weakens the tooth, it needs repair. Your dentist may suggest a crown, an artificial replacement of the upper part of the tooth, to restore the function and appearance of the damaged tooth. Crowns can be made from different kinds of materials. Based on location of the affected tooth, aesthetics and cost, the right one to repair your damaged tooth can be selected.

You may have one or more missing teeth due to decay or an accident. This might have lead to changes in the way you smile, bite, and even talk. It also brings additional stress upon surrounding teeth to compensate for the lost tooth. One option your dentist may suggest for replacing the lost tooth is with a bridge.

The missing tooth is replaced with an artificial tooth connected between two crowns (caps), which are permanently cemented or bonded on the adjacent teeth.

Usually, missing teeth were restored by grinding down the neighbouring teeth and then fabricating custom made bridges for them. In implant dentistry, this is rendered unnecessary, as a sterile biocompatible material is inserted into the bone, where it fuses with the bone in 3 months. A crown is fitted onto this. This procedure is part of the newest frontier in dentistry and requires special training and skill. Implants can also be used as abutments or supports for single crowns or bridges. In these situations a post is attached to the implant itself.

The crown or bridge is then fitted to the post and is held in place by either cement or a small screw. These types of teeth are all fully implant-supported and so bridges may require an adequate number of implants. The placement of these implants is also critical for proper function and aesthetics.
